Trying to be more of a bookworm in 2019? Why not combine your resolutions for body and mind and pick up some health-focused reading material? We asked some of Fitbit’s Local Ambassadors to weigh in on which books keep them feeling strong, motivated, and ready to take on the year, one page at a time:
Cynthia Lorena (Fitbit Local D.C.)
-
- “You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero to get a boost of extra, feel-good motivation.”
- “Eat Feel Fresh by Sahara Rose Ketabi and Plantpower Way by Rich Roll and Julie Piatt for healthy, plant-based recipes and when I want to be creative in the kitchen!”
Jon Cerf (Fitbit Local Denver)
- “Becoming a Supple Leopard: The Ultimate Guide to Resolving Pain, Preventing Injury, and Optimizing Athletic Performance” by Dr. Kelly Starrett — it’s a great read to know how to work on someone’s total health and well-being.”
Samy Mattei (Fitbit Local Denver)
“The two books that come to mind that have really set themselves apart in the health/wellness realm are Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach and The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, Douglas Carlton Abrams. Both of these books err on the side of mental, emotional, and spiritual development, balance and wellbeing, and have really shifted my lens of perspective, which trickles down into every other ‘health’ facet of my life.
JC Lippold (Fitbit Local MN)
“When it comes to a book that is always at the top of my stack, The Mindful Athlete: Secrets to Pure Performance by George Mumford is right there. So much of the work is within existing where you are with what you got…mindfulness is always the starting point of success.”
Jeremy Walton (Fitbit Local Chicago)
“How to Eat, Move, and Be Healthy by Paul Chek — this book came out at a time in my career when I was really beginning to understand how complex the body is. Nothing is separated from the other. How we eat affects the way sleep, affects the way we move, affects the way we live, and so on. It’s through this book I was able to understand that the change in my life begins with the change in how I see my body, how I use my body, and how I better my body.”
Elise Molinelli (Fitbit Local Los Angeles)
-
- “The Alchemist: a classic that reminds us: we already have everything we need to be happy.”
- “Daring Greatly: a reminder that our openness, authenticity and vulnerability are our greatest strengths.”
Jenny Finkel (Fitbit Local Chicago)
- “My go-to health/lifestyle book is the DK edition of BKS Iyengar Yoga: The Path to Holistic Health. It’s a big, beautiful hardcover book with wonderful pictures and illustrations of yoga poses and their many modifications and options for prop usage.”
Buddy Machua (Fitbit Local SF)
- “Make Your Bed by Admiral William McRaven — awesome read if you’re looking for some inspiration about making small changes in your life for big results!”
