It’s Here! Charge 3: Fitbit’s Most Advanced Fitness Tracker Yet

Fitbit Charge 3

The past year saw the release of Fitbit’s first two smartwatches: Fitbit Versa and Fitbit Ionic. But as a wearable leader, Fitbit knows that when it comes to health and fitness, one size doesn’t fit all; choice matters. That’s why the Charge fitness tracker family—Fitbit’s most popular product lineup—is getting a little bigger with the addition of Charge 3.

“With Charge 3, we’re delivering our most innovative tracker, offering an extremely slim, comfortable and premium design, along with the advanced health and fitness features our users want,” says James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit.

Fitbit Charge 3 has the same advanced sensors and algorithms used in Fitbit’s smartwatches—and many of the same features—but in a smaller package. Think Charge 2, but smarter. Way smarter.

Take a look at how they compare, below.

  • Questions:
    1. I currently have time, date, steps, & HR on one screen on my Charge 2 without scrolling. Is that still possible?
    2. Can you name silent alarms? That has been a request for YEARS!
    3. Why does every new product have a different charging cable???
    4. Any issues with bands getting caught on something and being pulled off? The connection of the band to the device looks like there is not mechanical latch.

  • I’ve enjoyed my fit bit .when my first one quit my husband got me another on about a year and a half to two years ago and it quit. I can’t afford to replace it but I sure expected it to last longer than it has. I no longer will need anymore notices. I’m almost seventy and it was good to keep track of my activity but I can’t keep buying them

  • So charge 3 is coming out. My question would be will the screen crack on this one too as it does with the Charge 2. Have had my Charge 2 a little over a year and the screen has cracked from top to bottom with no reasonable explanation. Having read similar stories on Fitbit forums would appear there is a design flaw and it is the charger that causes pressure to the device which results in the screen cracking. Very disappointed and not sure that I would invest in another even thought I loved my Charge 2! Buyers beware! Poor show for such a big brand!

    • The Charge 3 has Gorilla glass. I’ve had that on several phones and never had a single scratch. It’s good stuff.

  • No onboard GPS? That’s a terrible design decision. I love my Charge 2 but the connected GPS is awful, which is why I use a Garmin Forerunner 35 for running and cycling. Really disappointed by this omission.

  • When is the official release date of the Charge 3? As of right now you can pre-order and it ships in 6-8 weeks but when will it be available to buy in stores or direct through fitbit without waiting the 6-8 week wait time?

  • If it’s not already planned, I would love to see a countdown timer with intervals. Example, if you want to run 10 walk 1 and repeat for any length of time or doing interval training at the gym do each exercise 2 min, rest 30 sec.
I am fine if it needs to be set up on the phone but it would be nice if the fitbit would give a vibration for each transition.

  • Upgrading for the both of us from the original Charge to the Charge 2, mine worked flawlessly. My wife’s logged 16k steps each night while she slept. She gave up – customer service was a flop.

Ya know, folks, one will only spend a given amount of time trying to resolve an issue. You not only lost her but me too, our family and to some degree those with whom we’ve shared this story.

  • I have 2 questions:

    1) Will it track stairs? (As my Charge 2 doesn’t and I’ve done everything.)
    2) Why not allow current Charge 2 owners a fair trade-in discount if they upgrade?

  • I’ve had a Charge 2 for almost 2 years and love it. My only complaint is that it is bulky ( I have slender wrists). I switched to the Versa, but noticed it tracks steps while driving. I did a side by side with the new versa and charge 2 and the charge 2 was clearly more accurate. I am returning the versa tomorrow. I hope the charge 3 is less bulky as discussed.

  • One of the big advantages a gym has over your guest room/home gym is the
wide array of weights, machines, exercise classes and
other elements. This gives you the opportunity to try new
exercise equipment and vary your routine. If you do the same workout
day-in and day-out, your body builds a type of muscle memory and the gains you make are incrementally decreased.
Fitness experts say that finding different ways to exercise the
same muscles and muscle groups can improve the quality of your workout.

  • Pretty disgusted about the change in the release date. I ordered this thru Best Buy back in August with a guaranteed delvery date of October 1. Received an email saying pushed out to December. I called Best Buy and the re-affirmed the October 1 date but today is October 1 and I have heard nothing. Now I see a release date of November 16 on Amazon. WTF? No explaination offered. Maybe I need to shop for another product that will deliver as promised. This pre-ordered business is nonsense.
