Let’s Have a Healthy Holiday Season

For most of us, the holiday season is going to look a little different this year. That’s why we’re sharing plenty of insight and resources to help support you, our Fitbit community, in having a healthy holiday season.

Last month, we helped you learn a ton about immunity strengthening and support. From DIY home remedies that will supercharge your immune system, to debunking myths about the flu shot and more, we focused on providing all we can for you to stay healthy and strong, both mentally and physically.

As we head into December, we’ll be exploring all things healthy. From indoor winter activities you can do to keep from going stir crazy to preventing head pain during the holidays, and a whole range of delicious and festive recipes, we’ve got you covered!

All that said, we want to remind you how important it is to be kind and gentle to yourself now. A great way to go a little easier on yourself is to follow these guidelines:

First, put self-care at the top of your list of priorities. If there’s anything this year has taught us, it’s that self-care is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity.  Whatever self-care may mean to you, it’s crucial to prioritize it now in order to help yourself stay healthy.

Next, be sure to have a plan for when things feel hard or overwhelming. Will you finally start that regular meditation practice? Take a virtual yoga class? (You can do both easily with mindfulness sessions and offerings from Fitbit Premium.) Or maybe you’ll schedule a virtual session with your therapist to provide some professional support. Whatever it is, be sure to make a plan specially tailored to your own needs, so that you’ll have something to fall back on when you need it.

Acknowledge negative emotions when they arise. That means giving yourself permission to feel those negative emotions when they come up. It’s totally normal to feel sad, overwhelmed, stressed out, or anxious right now. Remind yourself that it’s okay, and these feelings won’t last.

Reach out to friends and family. Talk to someone you trust. Make time for regular virtual check-ins with those you may not be seeing in person as often as you’re used to this year. Or, if you’re feeling fatigued when it comes to all things virtual call, why not try being pen pals?

And lastly, remember to take a second to breathe. Breathing may seem like a no brainer, but most of us typically take fairly shallow breaths. Get back in the present moment with some deep breathing—its potential benefits include improving mental health. Don’t know where to start? Try these easy breathing exercises to help you calm down right now.

With the shift in priorities this year, there’s no greater priority than your health, and the health of those you care about. So get in the holiday spirit by giving what matters to those that matter most—the priceless gift of good health. Need inspiration? We’ve got you covered with our holiday gifting guide, specially curated with everything you may need to celebrate safely and in style with Fitbit.

Happy reading, and happy (healthy) holidays
