Fitbit Turns 10! A Note to You From Our Co-Founders

Fitbit 10th Anniversary

Thanks for 10 years

Wow—10 years. What an incredible moment to reflect on. We started Fitbit with one mission—to help people live healthier, more active lives. A decade later and that mission remains the same—but so many other things have changed. We’re amazed at how far we’ve come, and how many lives we’ve touched. So much of that is because of you.

Over the past 10 years you’ve helped us bring Fitbit to over 65 countries around the globe—launching more than a dozen trackers and an app people love. We hit the runway at New York Fashion week, then hit the streets to host free workouts in your communities. Got shout-outs in sitcoms, stand-up routines and late night talk shows. Fitbit was even an answer on Jeopardy.

Our numbers tell an incredible story:

73,724,731,035,482 steps taken

1,480,356 trips around the world

3 Billion nights of sleep tracked

60 Million Devices Sold

A lot can happen when you set big goals. But what matters most to us, is that we got to be a part of your goals. In the past decade, you’ve shared stories about your milestones, your setbacks and your successes. You’ve told us how Fitbit helped you change your lives—and sometimes even saved your lives.

So, thank you for being a part of our journey. And for letting us be a part of yours.

Ten years is a long time—but it’s just the beginning. We’re so excited for what’s to come, and look forward to many more years of bringing you products and services that keep you motivated and help you reach your goals.

Cheers to another decade of health & happiness.

James Park & Eric Friedman, Co-Founders

  • Thank you. I journeyed with you from the tracker, force, charge and charge two. I thank you for all your help. With your help, I’m hoping to live to ninety, ten more years. I know I am healthier because you have been with me. Again, thank you!

  • Thank you FitBit, you make a difference in the lives of many people, through your devices and your customer service and support!

  • Thank you so much, Fitbit. My body has definitely been healthier since you came in my life. I enjoy tracking my heart rate and sleep. I have been doing run/walks which was impossible for me in the past. And I gave 15-20 Fitbit charge hr to family as presents so they can compete with us, stay in touch and get healthier.
    Many thanks again

  • I love my Surge but the design has had me go through a couple because of the faulty band and it’s inability to flex at the main section. Can Fitbit correct this and also come out with another version that is basically the Blaze but with the Surge’s GPS capabilities?

  • Alta HR with the new sleep monitoring is on my wishlist. A suggestion, why not do a contest to win one?

  • The altars band is not stable it’s comes a loose in six months both ends. Otherwise I love my altra, especially the notification.

  • I liked my Fitbit but the rubber band started to coming unglued after 6 months. I should have sent it in but waited until it quite completely. It was then one month out of warrenty. I have learned not to miss it.

  • Congratulations Fitbit 10 years ! I know it has got me moving every day. I was able to increase my excersises and watch my calories.
    Thank you

  • I am a diabetic. The Fitbit has helped me gain more control over my situation. I have lost weight and I am sleeping much better.
It would be nice if I could control my a/c level by somehow keeping up with my daily levels of my blood sugar. Think about it

  • Good job boys I have one for 4yr I now have a Blaze. I have type 2 diabetics and the Fitbit keeps me fit. I am also 80yr old.
    Thanks guys.

  • My Fit Bit Blaze went dead so I charged it up and the time was not correct and has never returned to the right time. not happy with it at all. And had no idea how to get a hold of the company.

  • Congrats to you both and to the whole company. Eric you’ve done a great deal to help others with this technology and the ‘burgh’ is proud of you.

  • Love my Fitbit and your business model and customer service are spectacular! Off to finish 10,000 more today

  • I would like to get more info of the Smart Scale since reducing my weight is my primary objective. I need to learn how I monitor calories. I love my Fitbit. Thanks. I still have allot to learn. I will buy smart scale as soon as I learn more about it.

    • It is a shame that your support people do not fully disclose that when your Aria says WI FI ERR it means that it only operates under one single modem band width. Then they say they will replace the scale which puts the customer over the return limit time. Then after much discussion, they promise to refund the cost of the scale when they receive the original and replacement scale. I only received a third of the original price paid. Not something of which to be very proud. Since my husband purchased it as a gift for me, I left him to try to get proper reimbursement. He never tried because he just didn’t have time. He is out the money and I am out a gift. Unhappy customer here!!!!!

  • Great! Too bad you don’t stand behind your product 100%. When a tracker fails, the replacement should also come with 1 year warranty. Just goes to show that you knew the Charge had issues. 4 trackers in a year…batteries should last longer that a few months. Shame on you. Loved my Flex, but I will never buy another Fitbit.

  • That is all fine and well but how about getting Fitstar to quit overcharging and really tricking people into subscriptions. I was just charged for a second years subscription today when I accidentally downloaded the sip after I purchased my Fitbit. Needless to say I could t get reimbursed for the year. Today they charged me for another year! I sent an email and they said they saw the info to terminate last year but – but they could do it next year after they sucked snother 4o out of my account. I am disputing the charges but I will never but another of your products. They are a shady app. I will and never have used it because of the principal of it all. My name is Donna Buckner.

  • Love my Fitbit, started with the one, now I’m up to the Surge. We love to challenge our family members and friends each and every week. Keeping us fit for years to come. Thank you.

  • I’ve bought several fit bit over the the years. Loss a few some that lost memory . My last one would not sink wish my phone.

  • It would be nice after 6 attempts to get a response from Fitbit on a Fitbit that stopped working after 6 months.
    Very disappointing.

    • Yeah, they are great for taking the money but not on honoring the product, I kept getting e-mails that didn’t even address what I was asking

  • Well I used to be a fan until I’ve had the Charge HR replaced twice for failing glue on the bands, and now I’m on my third Surge for the same thing. It’s also failing horribly and now all I’m being offered is $50 off a new product from a company that has proven to me their business model is to sell faulty products, wait until the original warranty runs out and then sell a new faulty product to restart the cycle.

    No thank you Fitbit…

  • Had sent two Fitbit charges back as they both had problems! They sent me a 25% off code to use! Time ran out and I was still confused as to which Fitbit was best for me! It was between new Charge 2 and Alta! Do you have any advice! I am 79 years old and really miss my Fitbit watch! I had received it as a Christmas gift from my son in 2014. The stem on the Fitbit that you press, fell off! They sent me a new one, but the wrist band was horrible and fell apart! It looks like the watch bands now are made of a better quality material! If you have any advice on which watch would be a better fit for me let me know! Also if you can reinstate my 25% off coupon, I would be very happy as that will help with my purchase!

  • Thank you it keeps me moving each day..I started with the small clip on than onto the charge and now the charge 2.
My only wish would be for a longer life battery between charges..

  • Cheers to you, too! I love my fitbit and this is my third!! I lost 20 pounds but most important is that it keeps me active. Please keep me motive!

  • your fitbit is junk I only had just a little over one year just out of warranty it broke only to find out it was not reparable. The only option was a 25% off of another purchase you have to be kidding!

  • This has been such a great addition to my life. I have organized a great group to hold each other to our goals. Once my Fitbit was not syncing and my son called to see why I was not in that days challenge. I am 63 and thus is the best. Thanks so much.

  • Thank you!, Fitbit help me get back to my exercise after so many years of inactivity.
Now all my family is part of the Fitbit family … even my Mom and she’s 86!.

  • Too bad your recent devices don’t work worth a damn. My Charge 2 is grossly inaccurate measuring heart rate, varying as much as 30 bpm too high and 50 to 60 too low when I exercise. It undercounts steps by as much as 35%, but also counts steps when I sit on the couch folding laundry, scratch my head, and when I’m asleep. The forums are full of complaints like this about the Charge 2. If Fitbit can’t fix this defective design, it should give it’s purchasers a full refund. Or face a class-action lawsuit.

  • I started with the charge and now use the Alta. I put myself on a diet using the Alta. It took me a year and a half, but I 23 pounds. Six months later, off the diet, but still stepping, I’ve kept the weight off! Thank you Fitbit.

  • This is my second fitbit. The first one was the charger. The wristban gave away so I bought the alta. I don’t like it very much. When I want to see the screen it doesn’t always work. But at night when I am sleeping it wakes me up bylighting the room. I have bought 7 fitbits in all. My family is working to get in shape. Thanks

  • Hats off to the founders and team at Fitbit. I am not a tech junkie of any sort, in fact I’m quite “old school”. However, I cannot say enough about how much I love my Fitbit. My wife and I both have them and it motivates us to be active and get our steps in everyday. Our Fitbits encourage us and our two children the importance of leading healthy lives.

Thank you for bringing such an innovative creation into our lives.

    Keep on inspiring & innovating!!

  • I’ve been rocking the original Fitbit since day one — I think I even pre-ordered it. Amazingly it is still working! Can’t believe it has been in my front pocket for that many years. I would feel naked without it.

Congrats on the huge success Fitbit. Keep it up!

  • A wonderful product with superb customer service. Thank you and congratulations on your decade of excellence! Cheers to another 10!

  • Thanks to Fitbit I have made some friends that we challenge each other to get our steps in that we need for our personal goals. I have been on our treadmill more than ever and feel much better in my life.

  • Thank you! Fit bit has helped me love a healthier, more active life. I love it and appreciate all your company has done! Great job guys!

  • I have purchased three Fitbits the original ones and they all have refused to work. I have tried to reset them and still nothing.

  • I am 69 years young, God has me out walking for the past two years. Needless to say my Fitbit is a big part of my journey. I have done a walking 10K this past November and numerous 5K’s. Thank you and continued success.

  • Thank you so much James Park for my last 2 years of being more fit than i was when i didn’t have a Fitbit. I have lost alot of pounds with my Fitbit Charge 2 thank you so much for making my life so much for making fitbit’s. I have been running for the last 3 months each day to get in shape because i got a Fitbit.

    Thanks James Park

  • I am not impressed. You do not stand behind your product nor address issues. I wrote a letter to James Park, Eric Friedman & Edward Seal about my having to pay for a replacement (after having 2 bad Charge HR units) and not 1 had the decency to reply. You have since taken the Charge HR off the market – wonder why????

  • Congratulations on 10 years. I love my Fitbit, also I’m on my 3rd Ulta, since I don’t like wearing anything on my wrist. Love tracking my steps and sleep. Customer service has always been wonderful. Here’s to the next ten!

  • I have had two Fitbit hr. And band came apart on both. Now have blaze it is better. Lot better designed than my other two. Still work but bands come apart on them.

  • Thank you, James and Eric, for making a magic contribution to society. We are thankful because this gadget is doing wonders for me. As I increase my fitness capability and learning my sleeping habits, it allows me to become healthier thanks to your creation. I would like to make suggestions that will help many of us with cardiovascular illness and diabetes which it may improve the FitBit as we have it. How do I reach out research and development? Once again, the FitBit revolutionized the world! Congratulations on your 10th anniversary!

  • I just want to thank you for the Fitbit. It saved my life when I was having and Heart Attack. I knew my heart was about 52 and when I got out of the shower I could tell that something was wrong. I but my Fitbit on and it said my HR was 123 not normal then I sat down and it went down down to 117. So I knew then that something was wrong. I’m ok now but thanks to you and your company I’m here the type this and I’m still here with my Bride.

  • I love the Fitbit Alta and it’s sleek look and overall how Fitbit gets you motivated to move especially with friends. I do hope you come out with better straps as I have had to replace mine also within 6 months. Your customer service is excellent and took care of that for me.

  • I love my Fitbit Zip — only problem: I just lost it!! It came off its clip because I must’ve caught it on something. However, I just ordered a replacement, the Flex2! & am even more thrilled because this Fitbit also tracks my laps as I swim! Thanks, Fitbit!

  • My Fitbit not tracking my sleep time correctly. It leaves off correct time I went to sleep. Has hour gaps during sleep time. What is happening. Others complaining about this too.

  • I finally after many years joined the Fitbit wagon and your company as super-exceeded my expectations. After a year of saving I purchased my first HR Charger 2. I cannot believe all the things this little device can do. I am really excited to collect the numerous amount of different devices that you have that sync to the cell phones as well as with the Fitbit.

Thank you again for creating such an amazing product that pushes me beyond what I thought was capable.

  • HI, I have been trying to get in touch with you for days now about your company’s customer service. You’ve exchanged a tracker that was faulty since I got it as a present for a used one, which was awfully scratched and I wanted to hear from you what you make of your customer service and quality of your products. Why won’t you reply, James?
