Get Cooking with Fitbit and IFTTT for a Chance to Win!


Ever want a little nudge if you haven’t hit your steps goal, like an SMS reminder? Or perhaps you’d like your Fitbit stats logged in a Google spreadsheet?

Well, now you can!

Just activate the Fitbit Channel on IFTTT (If This Then That).

IFTTT is a service that lets you create “if this then that” connections, called “Recipes,” to automate interaction between over one hundred applications, called “Channels,” including Facebook, Twitter, SMS, Box, Gmail and, now Fitbit.

After activating the Fitbit Channel, you can create your own Recipes by setting “Triggers” to initiate “Actions” on other applications.

Here are a couple examples to get you thinking:

IFTTT Recipe: If daily step goal not met by 3 PM, then send me an SMS connects fitbit to sms

IFTTT Recipe: Warn friends if I haven't slept well connects fitbit to twitter

  • It would be super cool if we could log a specific activity and/or meal. I want to be able to automatically log my 1 hour swim when I check into the YMCA pool and/or log my typical lunch when I check into Chipotle.

  • I’ve been waiting for this! Thanks for integrating with IFTTT. One suggestion: add an action when you reach a certain number of steps (not necessarily your step goal). For example, you could have a text to yourself sent when you reach 5,000 steps (“You’re half-way there!”). Thanks again!

    • Taking Ryan’s suggestion in another direction: I’d like to get a SMS or Notification if my step count is below a specified number at a specific time of day. For example, if my step count is below 5000 at 11:30 am I want a notification.

  • Hello Fitbit,

    I love my “ONE!” I wear it every day. Because summer is upon us and clothes are lighter both in weight and in color, I would love love love it if my “ONE” came is skin colors. When attached to my bra, the dark color is sometimes visible.

    Please! Is this possible?

  • Not trying to win the contest, but wanted to add my 2 cents. Would love to be able to program several fitbit recipes based on time of day and step count. ie. send me motivation if by 11 am I haven’t gone 3000 steps, same for 6000 by 2pm and goal by 6 pm. So far I seem to only be able to do goal.

  • I would love to be able to set alarms in IFTTT as an action, so I can have different alarms automatically turned on and off by other events (calendar, email, etc)

  • Is there a receipt that I can capture everything in a single google doc? I have the Surge, and Aria, but right now I have three different docs being created.
    1. Weight
    2. Sleep
    3. Overall activity..

    I would like one that captures everything.. Every time I go to edit one I get an error.
