Gingery Kale Smoothie

There are a lot of green smoothie recipes in the world, some with avocado, others with matcha. But this one is a Fitbit favorite because it doesn’t try to mask the earthy flavor of the kale. Instead, a little bit of citrus and ginger transform it into something fresh and bright. If you think you don’t like green smoothies, just try it. Pretty soon, you’ll be sipping it every morning.

INGREDIENTS

1 banana, peeled and broken in chunks
1 cup (6 oz/185 g) frozen mango chunks
2 cups (2 oz/60 g) torn kale leaves
1 cup (8 oz/250 g) Greek yogurt, plain, low-fat
1 cup (8 fl oz/250 ml) 100-percent orange juice
1 slice fresh ginger

INSTRUCTIONS

In a high-speed blender, combine the banana, mango, and kale leaves. Add the yogurt and orange juice and toss in the ginger. Blend on high until thick and smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides of the blender once or twice. Add a little water to loosen, if necessary.

Pour the smoothie into tall glasses and serve cold.

  • I love the idea of adding ginger! Color is perfect too. I think this is going to be the way to give my teen something green!

  • The carbs in this smoothie are really high! Is that due to the mango and orange juice? What can be altered to reduce the carbs?

  • In my garden at the moment I have lots of beans, spinach and tomatoes.

Any smoothies recipes that use these items please.

  • you’re never supposed to combine fruit with dairy….I would have assumed that with your educational background being in nutrition as well as working with a company as large as fitbit you’re knowledge of the disadvantages to ones health re: food combinations would have been a part of your knowledge based repertoire to share with your reading public!!!

  • Thank you for sharing I was getting tired of the kale for breakfast, but the ginger and mango added a nice twist, love it!

  • Most orange juice available in stores has been heat treated, therefore is very acidic, unless it is freshly squeezed or extracted. I have a Vitamix so can add a fresh orange & a fresh mango along with ice. I’m dairy free so use pea protein powder in place of the yogurt. Otherwise, sounds delicious and will try it tomorrow morning. Had a large smoothie this morning.
