Small steps. Big impact.

Our Android App is Here!

Our free Fitbit app for Android has arrived! Of all the digital fitness device companies out there, we’re happy to announce that we’re among the first to offer both an iPhone and Android app. You can download the Fitbit app for Android for free from Google Play.

When we released our iPhone app last October and saw the warm reception it received, we started working on our Android app.  We made a point to design our app specifically for Android phones, rather than just try to make the existing app work on Android. We hope you’ll be happy with the results.

With this app, you can log your food, activities, weight and water while on the go, as long as you have a wireless connection. Everything syncs to (and from) your account, and you can view up to two weeks of data for easy access when you’re away from your computer.

The updated Food Plan is also on the Android app, so that you have all the information you may need to make smart decisions about your calorie intake throughout the day; to learn more, check our earlier blog entryFor our iPhone users, the updated Food Plan will be available with our next iPhone app update at the end of the month.  We’ll be adding new features and updates to both apps, so keep your feedback coming and make sure you keep your Fitbit app up to date.

And a special thank you to all our Android users for your patience! The app is only available in the US, Canada, and the UK right now, but will be expanded to further countries as we expand our direct international sales. Happy tracking and logging — wherever you go!

This will work on my Android tablet – thanks! But I really need a Blackberry app. Like many, my BB is employer-provided so there no option for me to switch phones. I’d love to be able to enter and access data on it while I am traveling.

This is great news, and much anticipated – especially when the app is available to non-UK europeans…
When is that going to happen?

GREAT! Can you please try to port your android app to the BlackBerry Playbook? I hear they have great people that can help you port it in as little as 5 minutes. Just tweet Alec Saunders, @asaunders he’s the head of developer relations for RIM. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WITH A NON FAT SUGAR FREE CHERRY ON TOP?

My fitbit shipped today from amazon. Hats off to the developers. I look forward to living a bit longer because of your efforts. I will let you know how it turns out. P.S. to drop $100 bucks on anything today matters. Nice to join folks on the right side of the future. tn.

Is there anyway to add on a barcode scanner to the app to load food that we are eating while out and about. I work at the border and have a hard time uploading my food due to no connectivity. I think that would be a great help. Also it would help for items that are not in the system.

Can we eventually use the Android app to sync our data from the FitBit One onto our Android device without having to use a computer as the middle man?

I love the app and works well with my FitBit One. IT’s nice to be able to track and add entries while I’m away from my computer.

I wish the Android App would allow me to sync my FitBit One through my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) which has the same blue tooth capabiliy as the iPhone 4S/5! Then it would be an awesome and complete solution!!

Are you planning to add that feature to the Android App?

It’s a good product, but missing a key feature for Android – e.g. sync via Bluetooth or other mechanism. Thanks!

I second Sara’s request, while it is great that you now have a Windows 8 app, I would love it to sync with the FitBit along with the ability to enter tracking data (food, weight, etc.) via the app instead of the website. Same goes with Windows Phone!

I can’t get the fitbit app on my Android Galaxy Note II to recognize the bluetooth and record the data from either the Fitbit or my computer. Where are the instructions for this?
