You already know your health is essential – and it’s all too easy for your wellbeing to get lost in the mix when you’re juggling life at the office.

Fitbit Wellness, the corporate wellness offering of Fitbit, focuses on how health and wellness impacts organizations. And we’ve discovered something pretty cool: healthy people and healthy organizations go hand in hand.

To learn more about the business community’s outlook on wellness, we surveyed 200 CEOs from organizations across the U.S. And guess what? Business leaders are recognizing the impact of wellness, too.

80 percent of the CEOs surveyed see corporate wellness programs playing a key role in reducing stress at work – even more than social events. It’s not rocket science: healthy, happy workplaces produce strong results. Workplace stress is no laughing matter—it’s estimated that more than 80 percent of doctor visits are due to stress, and workplace stress contributes to at least 120,000 deaths each year. Stressful bosses have even been linked to heart disease.

The costs are just as deadly for organizations: an estimated $500 billion is siphoned off from the U.S. economy because of workplace stress, and 550 billion workdays are lost each year due to stress on the job. No wonder 77 percent of CEOs with wellness programs have hosted an activity challenge, and 95 percent said their companies are likely to organize a challenge this year. To take this even further, 95 percent of CEOs are willing to provide incentives to employees who wear fitness trackers.

They’re onto something: being happy, healthy and active has an impact on how people approach their work and lead their lives.
