If you’re an active guy or gal looking to optimize your workouts, stay motivated, and push yourself to improve—all without sacrificing style or comfort throughout the day, Fitbit Charge 2 is the perfect tracker for you.
Make Every Beat Count Throughout Your Day
Fitbit Charge 2 automatically captures all-day activity, including steps, distance, heart rate, floors climbed, hourly activity, active minutes and calories burned. Fitbit Charge 2 also offers automatic sleep tracking, which records how long and how well you sleep in the Fitbit app, and lets you create a sleep schedule, complete with bedtime reminders and a silent vibrating alarm for gentle wake ups. There’s even Reminders to Move, a motivating new smart feature that displays friendly messages and give you a small vibration that encourages you to stay active throughout the day and keeps you on track toward hourly step goals.
The easy-to-read tap-sensitive display is four times larger than the original Fitbit Charge HR, so you can see more activity stats and keep your fitness goals on track with just a glance. You can also quickly view notifications from your smartphone on the go, when your phone is nearby, helping you stay connected to what matters most with call, text and calendar alerts. And the long battery life (up to 5 days*!) of Fitbit Charge 2 ensures you can keep moving without missing a step or a beat.
Make Every Beat More Meaningful During Workouts
Fitbit Charge HR revolutionized the industry by bringing automatic heart rate tracking to your wrist with PurePulse. Now, Fitbit Charge 2 takes that technology to the next level with an enhanced exercise experience and new health and fitness tools powered by PurePulse, including Cardio Fitness Level and Relax.
- Cardio Fitness Level: Find out how fit you are with a personalized cardio fitness level and score, based on your estimated VO2 Max, that are calculated using your user profile, heart rate and exercise data.
- Relax, guided breathing sessions: This new on-device feature offers a relaxing mindfulness experience that calms your body and mind through personalized deep-breathing sessions. The beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate determine your personalized breathing rate for each experience.
In addition to new heart rate-based features, Fitbit Charge 2 offers precise exercise modes that provide real-time exercise stats, helping you stay focussed and get the most from every sweat session, including multi-sport modes for tracking specific workouts like runs, biking, weights, yoga, and interval workout mode, which guides you in alternating periods of high-intensity exercise and recovery to maximize workouts like circuit training.
Fitbit Charge 2 also offers Connected GPS, which links your fitness tracker to the GPS in your smartphone to provide even more precise real-time stats like pace and distance to help you improve your run, bike, or hike experience while also recording a map of your route in the Fitbit app. And SmartTrack auto exercise recognition, which automatically tracks select exercises, including walks, runs, bike rides, treadmill exercise, sports, and aerobic workouts, and records in the Fitbit app—so you get credit for your exercise activity, even if you don’t track it manually!
Make Every Beat Count in Style
The sleek, sweat-proof design of the new Fitbit Charge 2 features a faceted steel body that balances the feel of a high-quality watch with the robust design you need to keep moving. my biggest issue with my Charge HR (interesting that’s been removed from the name btw) is that it is insanely bright in my bedroom.
my poor wife has had the thing turn on right in front of her face a couple times and it is REALLY REALLY bright in a perfectly dark room.
Conversely it’s barely visible at all in direct sunlight.
You could turn off the feature that activates the watch when your wrist turns. This way it shouldn’t just come on when you move it. It’s called Quick View Gesture. Turn this off.
I bought a wide black stretchy headband and wrap it around my wrist and over the display-problem solved.
The brightness in the sunlight stinks. You can’t even see the time and they tell me none of the fitbit items have adjustable brightness displays.Taking mine back before the 30 days for I run bus routes to the exact minute with time sync’d to smart phones, this does not work for me

Do you have to have your phone with you in order for the GPS to link? I don’t like running with my phone..
Great question, Jamie! As with Blaze, Fitbit Charge 2 uses the same Connected GPS feature. In order to track your activity via GPS, you will need to have your phone on you as Charge 2 utilizes your mobile devices GPS. Let us know if you have any other questions.
Can you tell me if it has a countdown timer and stopwatch?
Hi Mika! Charge 2 includes a stopwatch, but doesn’t have countdown timer. Great idea though!
Does the app have to be open when you start an activity to be tracked by gps, i.e. Bike? I’m having trouble getting it to track miles riding.
Good question, Millie! It depends on what Fitbit tracker you own. If you have Surge, it has built-in GPS which does not require you to have your phone with you in order to track your workouts via GPS. However for Charge 2 and Blaze, check out this help article to for tips and steps on how to setup and use Connected GPS to track your bike rides. Our apologies for the delay in responding. Let us know of you have any other questions!
when will the fitbit charge 2 be ready to buy/available—i am not talking about re-order—i am talking about it being in hand??? thanks, cynthiaaaaa
Thanks for your question, Cynthia! We don’t have a specific date to announce right now. But we plan to release Charge 2 sometime in mid-September. You can pre-order yours today!
What I want to know is if the charge 2 will track your heart rate and incorporate it with your sleep tracking
Yes! Charge 2 can be worn to bed to track sleeping and as long as you have Charge 2 Heart rate on, PurePulse will help to track your heart rate during sleep. For more info check out the Charge 2 product page. Hope this helps!
Love my Fitbit but you need to work on faulty straps not tech. I wouldn’t upgrade to a newer version. I like the size of my charge HR and haven’t worn a watch in 18 months. Can’t live without it. Again please sort out the straps.
Is it available in India?
Hi. We don’t have anything to announce on when Charge 2 will be released to India at this time, but stay tuned!

Does the display turn on automatically when you check the time or do you have the push the button to see what time it is?
Hi Wendy. To see the time, you don’t have to press the main button. Fitbit Charge 2 includes the Quick View feature that allows you the convenience of seeing what time it is by a simple flick of the wrist!
I like the FibBit series devices. However, I am in ambiguity. I currently use Moto 360 v2 smartwatch, which also gives some of the similar stats like FitBit. Though it is not comfortable to wear Moto watch during workouts, sleep etc., I am not sure if it makes sense to wear two wearables all the time!
Any thoughts?
Shyam, I wear an apple watch and Fitbit Charge HR (on separate arms) and have been doing it for the past year. It’s really about personal preference
Hi any update on the Fitbit charge 2 release date ?
Thanks for your interest! You can pre-order Charge 2 today. Your card will be charged when your order ships. We’ve tentatively scheduled to ship in late September. Hope this helps answer your question!
Is the GPS of the fitbit charge2 the same with Fitbit Surge?
Good question, Joe! Surge is our only Fitbit tracker that includes built-in GPS. Charge 2 supports Connected GPS, same as Blaze. With Connected GPS, Charge 2 must connect to your phone and uses its GPS to work. Hope this helps!
How can I get replacement band for my Fitbit Charge?
Hi Gab. Please reach out to us via our other support channels so we can help you from there with your Charge!
When will the charge 2 be available?
Thanks for your interest, Todd! You can pre-order Charge 2 now. We plan to ship Charge 2 sometime in mid-September. Hope this helps!
Does Connected GPS allow a runner to view Time, Pace, and Distance directly on the Charge 2 device (while running, for example, in real-time) or do they need to fumble with the connected phone app to see this data? Also, am I correct to assume that Connected GPS will work with both iPhone and Android?
Good question, Dave! In order to view time, pace, and distance, you don’t need to enable Connected GPS. Connected GPS is available for supported iOS and Android devices. Hope this helps!
I do interval training, and my fitbit charge HR heart rate lags behind often. Has fitbit improved purepulse, or is it the same system that I have on HR.
Thanks for your feedback, Kenneth. Charge 2 also includes our PurePulse technology. Check out our help article about heart rate and accuracy for tips to help with your heart rate readings. Let us know if you have any questions!
Will the charging cable from the charge hr work with the charge 2
Thanks for your question, Robert. Charge HR uses a different charging cable and cannot be used on Charge 2. Check out the Charge 2 product page to learn more about our new fitness tracker.
Can the Charge 2 be used to record spinning/indoor cycling?
Hi Caroline! Charge 2 can be used to record spinning classes/indoor cycling. We have an exercise shortcut for spinning that you can add to the tracker. Hope this helps!
Can not wait for the special edition lavender and gold!!!!
Having a countdown timer be really great! is it difficult to add?
Thanks for your feedback, Lorent! Get the attention of our developers by sharing your thoughts on our Ideas Board. We hope to see you there!
Will the Charge 2 have the music control feature in a future update?
Would this also control Audio Books?
Thanks for your question, Chris. We don’t have plans to include music controls for Charge 2 or Audio books. We appreciate your feedback. We will pass it along to our team!
Any change to the location of the charging port?
Hi Deb, The Charge 2 tracker requires a specific charging cable that is designed specifically for Charge 2. Check out the Charge 2 product page to learn more.
Will the Charge 2 have separate stopwatch/timer function?
Hi Ralph! Currently, Charge 2 only includes a stopwatch. Check out the Charge 2 product page to learn more about our newest heart rate tracker.
It isn’t correctly counting steps. 30 minutes on the elypse with arms swinging and 10 minutes on treadmill walking at 4.0 only yielded 1000 steps. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Sharon, check out this help article on how your tracker counts steps to get a bit more clarity. Hope this helps!
I will never, ever buy a fitbit product again. I had been a true fan but found out how the company does NOT back its product. None of my products have lasted a year
I’m now a Garmin girl.
Just beware and hope nothing goes wrong or you’ll be out of luck!
Hi Cheryl, our warranty covers the first year of your tracker’s life, and it sounds like you had an issue within that timeframe. If you’re still within that timeframe, and you’d like to reach out to us at our Customer Support help page, we’d be happy to help!
Just upgraded to the Charge 2 after having a One for a few years. Does my phone have to be nearby in order to record HR? Or will the Charge 2 upload this when it syncs with the phone? Thanks.
Hey Lesley, your phone does not need to be nearby to record your heart rate – your Charge 2 will do this, as long as you have the heart rate feature switched to “on.” You can then go into the heart rate tile on your Fitbit app to see a history of your heart rate data. Hope this helps!
I have had 2 Fitbit HRs. I have AFIB and need to be able to see my heart rate rather quickly. The strap broke on one and was replaced by the company, the second the face actually device separated, cracked at the band and device connections. The wires were showing. I had the first one 8 months the second one was only 6 months old. I am forced to go back to the big, bulky HR watch looking device now. So disappointed!!! It wasn’t cheap….it was not made to be worn all day and all night.
Sorry to hear this, Deborah. If you haven’t done so already, please reach out to our support team via our other support channels to see what your options are.
Does the display stay on while running ? I have a Microsoft Band 2 and I have the option to turn the display on/off if I want to. Can you comment on this ?
Hi Raha, the display on Charge 2 does not stay on while running. The Fitbit Surge, which also has built-in GPS, is the only tracker whose display stays on while running. Hope this helps!
Love my charge 2 but would like a clock face that shows bigger step count. Can’t wear reading glasses while running! Any chance of this happening????
Thanks for the feedback, Ben! Get the attention of our developers by sharing your thoughts on our Ideas Board! Hope to see you there!
I just purchased the new Fitbit Charge 2 but have hesitated to go online and set it up until I’m sure it is safe to use with my health conditions. With it’s Pure Pulse technology it’s safety instruction booklet recommends speaking with your doctor before using if you have certain heart conditions or tendonitis. I have both Afib (irregular heart beat) and also bursitis, tendonitis and arthritis. I also suffer from some respiratory issues, sleep apnea etc. I’m trying to get more exercise to help my lung function and heart health which is why I bought the Fitbit to monitor things. Should I have any concerns or should I just go for it and set it up and start using it?
Hi,
Can you clarify this for me: will the Fitbit Charge 2 show pace on the screen?
Thank you.
Hi Kana! It sure does! To take a look at how pace data is displayed on the Charge 2, check out this Fitbit help article. Hope this helps!
What is the release date of Fitbit Charge HR 2 in Portugal?
Many thanks
Hi Rui! Charge 2 should be available in your region. Please visit the Fitbit store to order yours today. Let us know how it goes!
Will the Charge 2 be available in the Philippines?
Hi. We aren’t currently shipping to the Philippines at this time and don’t have a release date to announce. Please check out our authorized retailer for this region to get info on their Charge 2 stock. Thanks for asking!
I have read many reviews that the Charge 2 does not track steps accurately nor your heart rate, has this bug been fixed. I am hesitant to buy if this is the case.
Hi D. Our products go through rigorous testing to ensure quality and accuracy. We do depend on user feedback to fix any issues that may arise and pride ourselves on correcting issues as they come. We are confident in the product build and accuracy of our products. To learn more about our products, please visit our site to see if it’s the right fit for you.
When using the stopwatch does the display stay on
Good question, Alastair! Charge 2’s display only turns on when you press the action button, tap on the display, or using Quick View. It will turn off automatically, after several seconds to preserve battery life. For more info, check out the Charge 2 product page. Let us know if you have any other questions!
Can I set a specific heartrate-zone, for example if I want to make sure I am running within the fat burning heart rate zone? I know that there are watches that have this feature like Sigma PC 22.13. I really would like a fancy fitness tracker but being able to control my heart rate is very important for me.
Great question, Emanuela! You can set a custom heart rate zone in the Fitbit app. Check out this Fitbit help article for more info. Hope this helps!
What setting to I use for yoga on the Charge 2? Absolutely love the new features and band replacement capabilities. Upgraded in order to use yoga as a workout, so which setting is appropriate as there is not a yoga setting.
Thank you
Hi Jill. Charge 2 does include “yoga” as an exercise shortcut. You simply need to add the shortcut: How do I customize the Exercise menu on my tracker?. Let us know if you have any other questions!
I need a fit bit for waterarobics class
Hi. I do circuit training and I’m planning to get the Charge 2. But I’m hesitant it can record or track this kind of exercise. Can it also track other high intensity exercises?
Hi Robert. With Charge 2, you can track circuit training. It’s included in our list of exercise shortcuts that you can select from. For more info check out the Charge 2 product page. Let us know if you have any other questions!
Hello just got my charge 2 ,was wondering why when I go up my stairs (12 of them) it does not always register, say I go up them 5 times it might count only 2 ? I know the height is right because I upgraded from a FB-1 that always counted the floors..
Hey Jeanne, check out this help article to learn how your tracker counts floors. Thanks!
My old Fitbit Fell apart after 10 months so this am I bought a new Fitbit charge 2. Having a devil of a job finding a link how to set the damn thing up. I just want a freakin watch right now. Anyone got any helpful links? I tried the Fitbit set up site and it just has my old details on it. I need a handy teenager……
Hi! Check out this help article to help guide you through the setup process. Should you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out to our support team via our other support channels. We hope to help get you setup so you can enjoy your Charge 2!
Which mode should be selected while cycling in charge 2
Good question, Mehul! The exercise mode that you’d select is ‘Bike’. You can edit your exercise shortcuts at any time. Hope this helps!
Charge 2 does not have a catergory for a indoor spin class. Any suggestion on what program I should use?
My Fitbit Charge2 is NOT tracking my outdoor biking!!! That was my purpose in purchasing a Fitbit. It tracks rocking in a recliner however. ?
Hello! Please ensure that you’re using connected GPS when using your Charge 2. Thanks!
My charge2 is only reporting sleep times of 1:30, 2:00 or 0:30. I do get 8 hours of sleep. Is there a setting that I need to adjust?
Hi there,
I cant find anywhere what the activity ‘workout’ is for, would it be for general gym usage? I go to the gym and sued weights mainly as well as a stepper and then some floor exercises. Atm i am just using the ‘weights’ activity. If any one has any information on the ‘workout’ activity that would solve my issue that would be great 🙂
Red?
I have been patiently waiting for a red band. Or maybe a two color?
Why doesn’t calories burned and distance show on the screen like the Fitbit charge HR?
I am impressed with this site, real I am a fan.
Is there a way to see how many steps I’ve taken each hour? I know I get a reminder to walk if I haven’t taken 250 steps. It seems like I’ve seen a screen that shows xxx/250 steps somewhere but can’t find it now.
I can’t get from the Windows Store to the fitbit site to setup my charge 2. I have an old dashboard from a previous charge HR, but it doesn’t say how to get to the proper site. (I uninstalled the old software, since an article said the charge 2 wouldn’t work with it.)
Hi there,
i am upgrading from alta to charge 2. How do i add that to my phone app? is there a way to change the model, device on the app?
My Fitbit charger 2, does not seen to record my steps!
Been up for five hours n it says I’ve walked 147 steps,
Its OK, on my wrist…. why n how can I get this to cooperate
I like the sleep I formation it gives‼️‼️
