Art Green has achieved a lot in the last 12 months. He became New Zealand’s first Bachelor, won a high profile professional boxing match and published his first book!

Alongside his degree in Sports Science, Art’s passion for healthy living and wellness extends beyond the books. He is also a trained PT, former gym manager and paleo enthusiast, which led him to start his own food company, CleanPaleo with three of his close friends.

Art recently shared with us a little more about himself and his love for fitness.

How did you get your start?

“A little over a year ago I was a normal guy – a sports scientist with a keen interest in health and fitness and a co-owner of CleanPaleo, a company dedicated to creating convenient, healthy food options for everyone. I was then approached by a TV network and asked if I would consider applying to be The Bachelor. After a long deliberation I said yes, and ever since then my life has been on fast-forward.”

Where have you appeared or been featured?

“In the same year that I featured on The Bachelor, I wrote a book called Eat Clean Live Lean, and beat former All Black Zac Guildford in a charity boxing match, Fight For Life. I also write a couple of health and fitness blogs!”

How do you find your fit?

“I start every day with some form of physical activity, whether it’s a run along the beach, a fitness class, a game of tennis or a workout at the gym. Sometimes if I don’t have a lot of time I will do 50 burpees at home. Exercising in the morning really sets me up for the day!”

“I find that my evenings are often filled with social sports as I play basketball, touch rugby and tennis every week.”

What is your most memorable achievement?

“Having never boxed before, my most recent and memorable achievement is my victory over Zac in last year’s Fight For Life boxing match. I was the underdog and everyone was expecting me to get smashed – after all, I was a pretty-boy fighting a professional rugby player who is renowned for being a bit of a scrapper. I trained hard for months and everything came together in the ring, I won convincingly and managed to surprise quite a few people. I’m still very proud of myself for having the courage to step in the ring.”

Why do you love Fitbit?

“Fitbit trackers are amazing because they are such simple and intuitive pieces of equipment that have the ability to change a person’s behaviour and help them to improve their health. Being able to keep track of my physical activity through the day, log my food intake and make sure I’m getting the right amount of sleep is such a great way to stay motivated and see my progress.”

What do you love most about your job?

“The best part of my job is that I am able to help people with their health. I believe that a person’s wellbeing is their most valuable asset and should be considered as such. By creating healthy and nutritious food I’m able to have a positive effect on people’s lives.”

What are you most proud of?

“I am most proud of myself for deciding to be on The Bachelor. It was an incredibly scary thing to do and put me well outside my comfort zone. But I look back and am really proud of myself for stepping into that unknown.”

What’s the best health or fitness advice you’ve ever received?

“When I was young my dad once said to me, ‘The hardest part about going for a run is getting your kit on.’ I was too young at the time to fully comprehend what he meant, and was probably thinking, ‘What are you on about dad, going for a run is way harder than getting dressed, you weirdo!’  I now realise he was referring to the mental battle that we sometimes go through to convince ourselves to exercise. I think about this advice every time I can’t be bothered getting out of bed to go for a run or feel too tired to do a fitness class. I’ve never once regretted doing that exercise that I didn’t want to do.”

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve ever learned?

“The biggest lesson I’ve ever learnt so far is that I am happiest when I make those around me happy.”
