We know how important it is to get a good night’s sleep—it can affect your mood, curb food cravings, ward off sickness, help improve your athletic performance, and so much more. But did you know that having good sleep hygiene—or putting in place habits that help you get a restful night’s sleep—and your sleep environment can have a significant impact on whether or not you get those doctor-recommended 8 hours?
With Fitbit’s advanced sleep tools, you can understand your sleep quality, form better sleep hygiene, and make the most of your day by improving your night. Keep reading to find out more.
How Fitbit can help you establish a better sleep routine
Unlocking the mystery of sleep starts with tracking it. Wear your tracker or smartwatch to bed and let Fitbit work its magic! First set a sleep goal, in addition to consistent bedtime and wake-up targets, then wear your Fitbit tracker or watch to record how long you sleep. You can then view graphs of your sleep in the app to see how you’ve slept over the last day, week, month, or year. See if making potential changes helps you get more Zzz’s.
Access on-wrist tools to help you establish a better sleep routine. Use sleep mode so your tracker or watch’s display doesn’t disturb you at night. Set a silent alarm to have your tracker or watch wake you up peacefully with a quiet vibration on your wrist. With Smart Wake, you can set your Fitbit alarm to wake you with a quiet vibration during a lighter sleep stage to help you feel more refreshed. Here’s how:
Set a silent alarm using the Fitbit app (or set one up directly on your smartwatch) and check the “Smart Wake” box. Your Fitbit tracker or watch will then wake you up in a lighter sleep stage, up to 30 minutes prior to your desired wake-up time.
Using 24/7 heart rate and sensitive motion detectors, your Fitbit tracker or watch estimates which stage of sleep you’re in. Smart Wake may help you wake up more refreshed, but it shouldn’t replace a good night’s sleep (experts recommend 7 to 9 hours a night).
Understand your current sleep habits with Sleep Score. Available on any Fitbit device with heart rate tracking, Sleep Score gives you a quick, easy way to see how well you sleep, watch your trends over time, and hold yourself accountable to your sleep goals.
Every morning in the Fitbit app, you get a Sleep Score based on the previous night’s rest.
Sleep Score is Fitbit’s most advanced sleep analysis and gives you an easy way to see how well you slept, based on three categories: sleep duration, sleep depth, and sleep restoration.
- Sleep Duration: Tracks how much time you’re actually asleep between your bedtime and wake-up time, not just the amount of time you spend in bed (it’s normal to wake briefly throughout the night).
- Sleep Depth: Measures how much time you spend in deep and REM sleep, a key contributor to quality rest.
- Sleep Restoration: Analyzes your resting heart rate and movement during sleep to measure how refreshed you should feel in the morning.
Try using the new Snore & Noise Detect feature. About 30 percent of Americans say they snore. On its own, snoring is not usually serious, but for some it can indicate an underlying medical condition like sleep apnea. Now available to Sense and Versa 3 users on Fitbit Premium, the Snore & Noise Detect feature can help you identify snoring and ambient noise while you sleep, so you can work toward better rest.* Plus, get a detailed report you can share with your healthcare provider.
So how does it work? Snore & Noise Detect uses the built-in microphone on your Fitbit smartwatch.* During sleep, your Fitbit watch will analyze the noises in your room, which may include snoring from you, snoring from others, or other sounds like a leaky faucet, car alarm, or barking dog. Each morning, check your Snore & Noise Report in the Sleep section of the Fitbit app to see if your watch detected any snores or ambient noise.
Both snoring and ambient noise can disturb your sleep and impact how restorative your rest is. If you think snoring may be affecting your sleep, you can use your Snore & Noise Report in the Fitbit app to have an informed conversation with your healthcare provider.
Join Fitbit Premium, then turn this feature on within the Sleep Tile in the Fitbit app.
